The Unique Identification project, UID, is an effort to implement an effective enterprise-wide UID asset management initiative.    Major long-term goals of UID implementation are to take advantage of the machine-readable UID mark in combination with automated information systems to minimize the errors, delays, and wastes of manpower inherent in manual systems.    Achieving these goals will demonstrate how UID can enhance not only property accountability, but supply chain and maintenance activities as well.

The UIDunencoder module has been developed as a group of shared libraries accessible by computer applications to decode a string of data from a UID mark.    The need for more than one shared library is due to the diverse computer platforms, operating systems, and development environments that require this capability.    All UIDunencoder modules remain property of the United States Government with this application serving as a public reference.   The newest feature of the UIDUnencoder module is the ability to allow a user to specify control character aliases (translation strings) for EOT, GS, and RS control characters, in accordance with the external scanning device being used.

Provided below is a form for interacting with the UIDunencoder module developed for use with the Microsoft .NET Framework 2.0.    Either scan or paste a 2-D UID mark data string into the textbox below and press the Process Mark button.  For more information about the UIDunencoder .NET assemblies, save the online help file to your local machine and browse through it.

* Please Note:    The imaging device must transmit the non-printable control characters EOT, RS, and GS or an alias for each.  Some imaging devices accomplish this task by enabling keyboard emulation.  Also be aware that if the imaging device transmits a carriage return at the end of the data string being transmitted, separate from the EOT, this form will automatically submit.

OPTIONAL: Enter alias values to use for the non-printable control characters used in UID marks.
EOT:     RS   GS:
